He comes across as an arrogant ass, imo.. Criticizing her decor, talking about her toilet, her snacks. And he did not help Barbra write the script. Why did he feel he had to knock Barbra down? Men are so threatened by strong brilliant women. Seems he only spoke niceties when Rosie prompted him too. Read her book.🙄

He was great choreographer, but there will be always a massive difference between any dancer and classically trained ballet dancer. Posture and flow tax for themselves.

Bob Fosse was a brilliant dancer and a seminal choreographer. I've watched many clips of him performing, though, and he just seems shy of stage charisma. I wonder why?

I think the best dance partner for Fosse, was definitely Vernon. Later Shirley maclaine had a good style too.

A script helper? Not how Barbra's book says it went .. the script had been written and revised a few times before she approached Mandy. Firstly she wanted Richard Gere for the part (Mandy mentioned him briefly).. but he wouldn't accept her as an actor and director .. she wanted Mandy having searched everywhere because he was .. in her words .. a character actor because she thought she wanted the talent more than the looks in the end (she had wanted someone who had a both masculine and feminine face which Mandy doesn't have) . She sent him the seven-volume 'The Legends of the Jews as a crash course in the Talmud and arranged for him to visit a yeshiva to observe the students. He had homework to do before he stepped on the set she says. In the book she also says they were meant to be lying in bed together having made love .. but by that point Mandy had been making her life miserable for months and she couldn't bear the thought. She had to constantly get him to stop overacting which he felt really difficult. This film was Barbra's first in Directing and it seems she was almost an outcaste in the world of Directing .. Steven Spielberg made a nice comment and after that the press said he was Barbra's mentor on the movie when in fact he had nothing to do with it, which he himself said about later (the mark of a true genius). Men always seem to have to be in charge, take the credit etc as Mandy does here saying he helped with the script well it's well done to Barbra for her wonderful effort in bringing Yentl to the screen .. as both an actress and a Director ... she excelled. Pity the men in the industry feel so threatened by her they couldn't give her the true credit she deserved .. guess it says more about them than her .. a true genius doesn't have to belittle anyone to be great themselves .. they just are great (like Steven Spielberg). At least Mandy says here Barbra was wonderful. I have to give Barbra credit she doesn't see criticism as a put down but rather as a learning opportunity .. another mark of a true genius in my opinion.

Thank you, well said! Exactly what I came here to say. He comes across like an arrogant ass to me. And then has to make comments about what Barbra ate and her toilet? He's a jerk as far as I can see. And I too listen to Her memoir. And yeah I totally believe her story.🙄

Lost in this is what a vile person Lewis was. Seven marriages, three before age 22 including bigamy. One of the longest to a distant cousin who was 13 at the time. And of course the vile family line including the disgusting Jimmy Swaggart and the idiocy of Christianity (not to mention the hopeless contradiction of playing Boogie-Woogie and being a drunk while singing gospel songs.
